Your Public Power Company
Huntersville and Cornelius are Public Power communities which simply means the Towns own and operate their electric systems. To the Towns, owning their power system means local control; fast, neighborly service; and economic benefits for their residents.
The towns of Huntersville and Cornelius combined their electric operations in 1997 to reduce operating costs, provide more customer options and improve customer service. ElectriCities, the trade organization for public power communities, was chosen to operate and maintain the combined electric system.
Economies of scale created by the union have enabled both towns to maintain electric rates below the regional average. In 2011, the electric department received the highest safety award given by the N.C. Association of Municipal Electric Systems for working in excess of 250,000 hours without a lost-time injury.
The electric department has transitioned to automated meter reading, providing a more economical way to read meters and more timely response to customer billing questions. A new customer information system and financial system have streamlined operations and provided expanded options for customers. Our web site enables customers to pay their bills on-line and view billing and usage information.
We are proud to serve you and appreciate your business!
